Camp Zon

July 15 - 26, 2024

Who should apply?

Any high school or rising college freshman 16 years of age and older residing in Massachusetts! There are no prerequisites or research experience required. We welcome students from all backgrounds and particularly encourage women and underrepresented minority students to apply.

What is Camp Zon?

During this paid part-time virtual two-week research experience, you will become a scientist in the Zon lab and learn all about research using zebrafish. You will be part of a team designing a research project to study anemia using zebrafish as a model organism. Throughout the program, you will generate a hypothesis, design experiments, and analyze the data. We will be performing the zebrafish experiments you design live in the lab. At the end of the two weeks, your team will present their data to the lab.

As part of the camp, you will attend lectures from world-class scientists on topics ranging from basic biology to clinical translation of research. You will learn to critically read and understand scientific literature, as well as learn the basics of coding to graph your data. Finally, Dr. Len Zon and the scientists in the lab will give career advice in a mentoring session and career panel Q&A.
